The answer is: When you issue a startup command to Weblogic instance, it tries to decrypt the encrypted password of the boot.properties using a weblogic.security.internal.BootProperties class file which is built-in with Weblogic.jar.
STEPS TO RECOVER THE LOST OR NOT KNOWN PASSWORD FOR WEBLOGIC ADMIN CONSOLE.
Step 1. Save the below java & scripts files accordingly on your Domain hosting server in a commonly accessible location and change the directory to that location.
RecoverPasswd.cmd - Windows
RecoverPasswd.ksh - Unix
Step 2. Run setWLSEnv.cmd/setWLSEnv.sh from your %WL_HOME%/server/bin directory to set necessary environment variables in command prompt for windows and shell prompt for Unix as above tool requires weblogic.jar to run.
Step 3. Now compile the Java code using below syntax.
Syntax: javac RecoverPasswd.java
Step 4. Copy the compiled class to your %DOMAIN_HOME% as this class file needs to be run from the domain directory.
Step 5. Now run RecoverPasswd.cmd or RecoverPasswd.ksh accordingly. Please see the syntax below before you run.
Syntax:
Windows - RecoverPasswd.cmd [domain_path]
Unix - ./RecoverPasswd.ksh [domain_path]

When I am running RecoverPasswd.cmd file, an error msg is coming " 'Domain_Home' is not recognize as an internal or external command, operable programe or batch file.The system cannot find the path specified." I have weblogic 12.1
